Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Mama Java coffee?

We are REAL moms who got sick of throwing away cup after cup of shitty coffee because #momlife called and we left it sitting for hours. We don't pretend to be perfect, sharing only the moments when we shine at parenting. Our kitchens are usually messy, there are loads of laundry lying around, and at least once a week we have no freaking clue what's for dinner. We don't know the secret to motherhood. What we DO know is how to roast the best cup of coffee you'll ever have.

What makes your coffee different than everything else?

We are a small batch specialty roaster which means that we are not roasting hundreds of pounds of beans at a time, then letting it sit until you order it. We roast based on what is ordered each day, so your coffee is FRESH when you receive it. In addition to when we roast your coffee, how we roast it is equally important. We choose our beans specifically focused on the needs of moms, to offer up coffee that is going to stay enjoyable even after it's been sitting or reheated multiple times - because that's what REAL mom life is like! This is why you'll see us offering a lot more light roasts than dark, because it's much easier to control how long the coffee stays good.

Where do you get your beans?

We source our beans from a variety of different places but have found that Brazil, Colombia and Central America are best suited for the type of coffee we are roasting. For us, we find that these beans, once roasted, hold their flavor and acidity level better than others, creating that great cup of coffee even AFTER it's been sitting!

How long will my coffee stay fresh?

Your coffee will stay fresh for up to four weeks when properly stored. We recommend storing your coffee away from humidity in a dark, airtight container for the best results. We package our coffee in bags with degassing valves to limit the oxygen coming back into the bag (which is how your coffee gets stale!) so make sure to not leave the bag, or container you store the coffee in, open for too long.

When will my order ship?

Being a small-batch roaster, we are roasting coffee every day based on what's been ordered. We don't have coffee just sitting around, already roasted, to ensure freshness when it gets to you. Because of this, most orders will ship within 24-48 hours, Monday-Friday (excluding holidays). You will be notified via email when your order ships, and be provided tracking information to stay updated on your coffee's arrival.

How much is shipping?

We try to stay as reasonable as we can with our shipping rates. Coffee is heavy, though! We offer flat rate shipping within the United States, and ship internationally via USPS First Class International or Priority International to offer the best shipping rates outside the US.

What is your return policy?

If your coffee or mug arrives damaged, please contact us at with your order number and we will get a replacement of the same item out to you. Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns or exchanges on coffee at this time.

What methods of payment to you accept?

We accept all major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, JCB, Diners Club and debit cards), PayPal, Apple Pay and Amazon Payments.
